| War Affected Children |
| This Web site provides information, multimedia features
and interactive elements on the events leading up to and including
the International Conference on War-affected Children. We invited
youth, members of civil society and representatives from governments
and non-governmental organizations to explore this site to learn more
about the complex issues surrounding war-affected children – and see
what national and international actions are being taken to address
the issues. http://www.waraffectedchildren.gc.ca/ |

| War Child |
War Child is a network of independent organisations
working across the world to help children affected by war. War Child
stands on the twin beliefs: that we’re not free to ignore an innocent
victim’s plea for help and that children are the seed-corn of society,
its future hope. War Child interprets the term ‘war zone’ to include
areas of current armed conflict, areas where children are still suffering
from the devastation of war leaves in its aftermath; and areas where
children’s lives are in jeopardy due to poverty, violence and disease.

CHILDREN BEFORE THE ICC
Children who have witnessed or are victims of war crimes may have
special needs because of their age and vulnerability. The Statute
of the ICC has been drafted to ensure that the ICC will be staffed
with people sensitive to the special considerations related to violence
against children. http://209.217.98.79/english/09_children_e/09_children_e.htm |

| AFHGANISTAN: CHILDREN DEVASTATED BY WAR |
| Children have been the victims of the war in many
ways. Hundreds of thousands have been killed in indiscriminate bombing
and shelling of their homes, schools or playing fields. Hundreds,
possibly thousands, have been subjected to deliberate and arbitrary
killings and torture at the hands of the numerous armed political
groups. Many more have been killed or maimed by the millions of landmines
which litter the country. ARTICLE FROM AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL http://www.web.amnesty.org/ai.nsf/index/ASA110131999 |

| USAID Assistance to Children Affected by War |
| Around the globe today, children in over 50 countries
are suffering the effects of armed conflict. Children who are the
victims of trauma, violence and involuntary participation in war are
not the only ones who are directly affected. Essentially, all children
living in conflict areas suffer from varying degrees of anxiety and
emotional distress that, if not effectively addressed, can adversely
affect them for the remainder of their lives. http://www.usaid.gov/press/releases/fs991101.html |
