There are many career opportunities for people in the Canadian Forces. One possible career path is to become a field engineer. 

What are field engineers?

Field engineers are members of the Canadian Forces who work in peacekeeping, disaster aid, and fighting missions. 

Description

Field engineers' work can involve detecting and clearing land mines and explosives.

Field engineers can also be responsible for: 

  • constructing buildings to house people, equipment, and vehicles 
  • building and maintaining roads, airfields, and bridges 
  • maintaining equipment, weapons, vehicles, and supplies 
  • testing, purifying, filtering, and distributing drinking water 
  • constructing field defences to protect troops and civilians 
  • destroying enemy roads, airfields, and buildings 

Education/Training

  • Basic Military Occupation (MOC) Training 
  • Advanced courses and specialty training courses 

Skills

  • mechanically and technically oriented 
  • resourceful 
  • innovative 
  • self-reliant 
  • able to work well under pressure

International Connections:

For all careers there are international opportunities that people can pursue. Some careers offer short-term international connections of a few months or years; others present possibilities to span an entire career:
