What is a GEOSCIENTIST?

Description

A geoscientist's main responsibility is to collect and compile accurate information about mineral resources. Their work involves: 
  • exploring, often in remote areas 
  • collecting data on the physical properties of a region 
  • taking samples, pictures, and measurements 
  • compiling and interpreting research 
  • using satellite imagery as a mapping tool 
  • producing maps as part of a geological survey
Education/ Training
  • a Bachelor of Science in Geology or Earth Sciences 
  • a Masters degree 
  • a Ph.D. (to be involved in research)
Skills
  • self-directed 
  • independent 
  • able to interpret data 
  • a good memory 
  • enjoy working with a team 
  • good at keeping records

International Connections

For all careers there are international opportunities that people can pursue. Some careers offer short-term international connections of a few months or years; others present possibilities to span an entire career.

  • Work with countries to help draw up overviews of their country's resources (geological surveys). 
  • Provide technical assistance and training to geoscientists in other countries.
