There are as many volunteer opportunities as there are non-profit organizations
in Canada. Below are just a few organizations looking for student volunteers:
International Opportunities
Canada World Youth
Canada World Youth offers international educational exchanges, work
placements, community and family living experiences, volunteer work and
conferences. In 1996-97 over 1,000 young people from Canada and from more
than 20 countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Central
and Eastern Europe will participate in one of Canada World Youth's programs.
World University Service Canada
In Canada, WUSC Local Committees are active on Canadian post-secondary
campuses. They contribute to international understanding by organizing
development education activities and by sponsoring student refugees to
come to Canada to complete their education. In addition, WUSC has a growing
variety of programs which enable university and college students to work
and study in developing countries.
Environmental organizations
Greenpeace Canada
Greenpeace Canada is an international organization which was founded
in Canada in 1971 when members of the Don't Make A Wave Committee in Vancouver,
Canada, renamed their organization to better proclaim their purpose: to
create a GREEN and PEACEful world. Greenpeace is best known for non-violent
direct actions which raise awareness and bring public opinion to bear on
decision makers.
Human Rights organizations
Amnesty International
Amnesty International, the organization working to expose and prevent
human rights abuses around the globe has a number of suggestions for how
you might get involved.
The Global Change Game
This fast-paced live-action simulation event
offers up to 75 players a chance to travel 30 years into a global future
of their own making. Each school year our crew of facilitators travel
across Canada providing this internationally-recognized workshop to the
nation's high schools, universities and community gatherings.

of Canadian non-profit, non-governmental organizations active in developing
